Surgery

Our doctors at Deland Animal Hospital perform many surgeries, ranging from routine procedures such as spaying and neutering to more complicated ones such as cancer surgery and orthopedic work.

Dr. MacPhail has a special interest in orthopedic surgery and can fix many types of fractures, torn ligaments and hip problems.

  • Internal Medicine
  • Oncology

Dr. Ulbrich has a particular interest in these 2 fields. Pets with cancer require special care and can be successfully treated with various methods. Chemotherapy for our fellow friends has evolved dramatically over the last few years and can significantly improve their quality of life.

Dentistry

Nearly 80% of dogs and cats have some form of dental disease. Dental problems can lead to severe health threats such as systemic infections affecting the lungs and heart. Proper care is essential! Brushing your pet's teeth, proper diet and routine checks are important. Many pets require a "dental cleaning". Your pet is lightly anaesthetized using isoflurane gas and the teeth are root planed, scaled and polished.

Laser Surgery

Less Pain for your Pet!
Lasers surgery has been widely accepted as a higher standard of care in human medicine for over 30 years. It presents a host of benefits over traditional surgery, and in many procedures, the can replace the scalpel entirely.

What are the benefits of laser surgery?

Less Pain:
The laser seals nerve endings as it "cuts." As a result, your pet will experience less pain and be more comfortable after surgery.

Less Bleeding:
The laser seals small blood vessels during surgery. Because there is less bleeding, surgery is often completed more quickly, reducing the amount of time your pet will be under anesthesia. This further reduces potential complications.

Reduced Swelling & Infection:
Physical contact between the laser and the surgical region is never established, thus eliminating the crushing, tearing and bruising of tissue associated with traditional surgical method-s. Additionally, the CO2 laser energy acts as an antimicrobial/antibacterial agent by producing high temperatures, effectively eliminating microorganisms.

Quick return to normal activities:
Healing is rapid and there is less post-operative discomfort and a better course of healing.

Endoscopy
Radiology

X-rays
are a non-invasive form to diagnose certain problems. We can perform special radiographic techniques such as barium studies and cystograms. We are also one of the few veterinary hospitals in the area with an endoscope. Endoscopy gives us a live picture of the inside of the digestive and respiratory tract. It is a minimally invasive procedure enabling us to diagnose many conditions.

Inhouse Laboratory

Our lab includes various blood machines such as the Idexx complete blood count laser cyte, the Vet-test Chemistry analyzer and a thyroid and cortisol analyzer. We also perform other laboratory diagnostic procedures such as urinalysis with sedimentation, heartworm tests, fecal floatations, feline leukemia/aids test and more!

Full Service Pharmacy

Our pharmacy is stocked with many of the latest veterinary drugs and products. It is extremely important to know everything possible about the most effective and safest medications available to your pet. In addition, we want to make things as convenient as possible for you and can dispense products during your visit. Special orders only require 24-48 hours.
